The first leg had been a 1-1 tie. This game, though, although the trophy was handed over at the end, would later be declared null and void and it would be replayed later on. *SPOILER ALERT* The match ended in controversy: in the 60th minute, Wydad scored a goal, but the referees ruled it down for an offside. On replays, the scorer seems to be onside, but the situation couldn't be reviewed by VAR because the system was broken for this game. Wydad players refused to resume the game and, after 30 minutes of negotiations, the game ended and Espérance was awarded the trophy. However, days later, the African Confederation cancelled the result and announced that the game would be replayed on neutral ground.
