// With 20 minutes left, “Bofo” Bautista took an elbow and, when he stood up he made a little gesture to the stands, which got Martín Palermo following the Mexican and they got into a fight and were both sent off. Bautista had to go to the dressing room but for safety reasons, having to cover 60 metres, he decided to take shelter on the bench. When he was finally escorted to the dressing room, he was beaten by two fans who had jumped onto the field. And when he passed by Argentinian coach Jorge Benítez, the latter blatantly spat on his face, which he would later cynically deny on the media. The match was called off for safety reasons and Benítez would later be sacked after the defeat and his shameful offense on Bautista.
