En la 1ª parte,el peso del partido lo tiene el Milán, con mucho movimiento arriba y haciendo caer al Brujas en fuera de juego una y otra vez. Al inicio de la 2ª parte, golazo de Carbone por toda la escuadra. A partir de ahí, juego trabado, muchos fueras de juego del Brujas, poco juego de ambos equipos y la roja a Van Basten al final del partido, que marcaría el devenir de la siguiente eliminatoria para los vigentes campeones.
