Information

Five years before the beginning of the rivalry between Flamengo and Sport, these two teams played in the Round of 16 playoff of the 1982 Brazilian National First Division. It was a heavy rainy day in Rio de Janeiro, this could harm ball possession and the skill-based style of the Mengão side. Sport Recife was really worried about the absence of their deadly striker (he even played for the Seleção in the 1980s) called Roberto "Coração de Leão" ("Lion's Heart"). The Pernambuco-based team was hoping that Givanildo Oliveira could be the leader that would turn the tides into the Leão do Norte's favour. He is a legend for Sport's archrival, Santa Cruz, with 13 call-ups and 6 matches played for Brazil's National Team in the 1970s, was the greatest highlight of the Santinha team that achieved the 4th place in the 1975 Brazil National First Division and his nickname as a player was "O Rei de Pernambuco" ("The King of Pernambuco", Santa Cruz's and Sport Recife's home state). Givanildo is today a famous head coach because of his Brazilian record of 6 promotions between National Divisions (including 5 to the Brazilian Série A), earning him the nickname "O Rei do Acesso" ("The King of Promotions). The Flamengo side was hit by the absence of a goalscorer as well: Nunes would not play. The Rubronegro Carioca could count on the rest of their stellar team, though. Zico, Júnior, Leandro, Mozer, Andrade, Adílio and Tita were ready to overcome the heavy rain and try to win this match.
